As part of our Enviro unit we visit a Demo Dairy which researches, demonstrates and educates farmers, visitors and trains students all about best practice in the dairy industry. Together with visits and classes such as Framlingham Aboriginal Mission, Mt Emu Creek Water Watch, Hopkins River Canoeing/Hopkins Falls, expos and other outdoor activities the students start to form varied opinions of the environment. They start to understand that there are many stakeholders at play in managing and caring for the environment. An evening class is held later in the term where each expo team adopts the ‘persona’ or platform of one of the stakeholders and debate how best to manage the land. With guest adjudicators from Demo Dairy and Gunditjmara, the debate is very interesting.

All students have just completed their first aid lessons consisting of a CPR lesson and exam and two lessons in Level 1 First Aid skills such as: treating fractures, sprains and strains; managing shock, head and spinal injuries; applying first aid for burns and bites. A first aid exam will be held soon and the students will then qualify for their Level 1 First Aid Certificate. These photos show students training for CPR and then undertaking peer assessment of CPR and participating in scenarios.

Recently Gnurad-Gundidj students were featured in local newspaper article: "Youngsters get a taste of our way of life". The students spend a morning at DemoDAIRY, learning about dairying, and its relationship with the land and environment. Students have the opportunity to learn about careers in the Dairy Industry.

On a recent rest day, a bus load of students arranged a visit to the local pool in Warrnambool to relax. A great morning saw students swim a few laps, have some relays and just relax.

Each term our students learn about a local topic such as volcanoes, indigenous food, native plants, healthy lifestyles and orienteering. We then invite students to visit us from a local primary school, this term being Panmure Primary School. We run the day from arrival/welcome to lunch and then give out certificates at the conclusion. The benefit to the Gnurad students is that they learn to research a topic, determine interesting activities so students can learn about the topic and then teach it to the primary students. For your information a timetable of the day is attached so you can see who taught which topic, the teams and the range of topics. We were particularly pleased that the Panmure Primary School Principal spent the day with us and he acknowledged the excellent work of the Gnurad Gundidj students. A great day was had by all involved.

The day after Parent Visiting weekend is very interesting. We welcome students back ‘home': they really call Gnurad Gundidj home at this stage! After a morning of refocusing back to the program, we spend an enjoyable afternoon in a fun team competition. In this team challenge there are a variety of challenges from trivia to interpretive dance to singing. Each team adopts a theme and the persona that goes with it. This term the Emos won!
