DemoDAIRY is a key knowledge point for dairy farmers in south-west Victoria. It is a not-for-profit research demonstration dairy farm located near Terang, Victoria. It is an experimental dairy farm having more than 300 members from the south west region of Victoria. It provides opportunity on dairy focused research, applied demonstration and educational activities to members. It works according farmer's needs and priorities with industry to plan a better and sustainable future. As part of our Environmental Unit, all students visit the DemoDAIRY to gain an appreciation of leading best practices in the agriculture industry. The Enviro Unit also has foci on Hopkins Falls, Indigenous land use, Crater to Coast rail trail, sustainable river management practices and coastal land care. These are interspersed throughout the program both formally as well as informally through visits, tours and recreational use such as surfing and expeditions. Specifically, our Demo Dairy visits focus on projects such as reclaiming / recycling effluent water from milking yard wash downs, methane capture from effluent ponds, creation of nutrient filter ponds and wetlands, composting techniques, farm materials recycling strategies, nutrient rich paddocks and various forms of feed (hay, silage, pellets, grass etc) and careers in the dairy industry.
