Term 3, 2016 - Red Cliffs SC - Week in Review

  • This past week we went on expo and we all loved it! It was so such fun and we all got to learn a little more about each other. Even when it was raining, we were all smiling. We now feel like a better team and we know we can take on anything with the help of each other.
  • This most interesting class was Food for Thought. We were all in different classes and had to eat different meals; some of us had to eat rice from the ground. It was so much fun though and opened our eyes to what some people have to eat every day.
  • We are all excited for our CLP day each is coming up in a few days. We have been working very hard and we believe that we will present really well.
  • We believe the quote “united we stand, divided we fall” by Aesop really suits our tem this week. We believe this because during expo, when we all worked together we got a of things done; but when we didn’t work together, not a lot was done.

  • In the past week we really enjoyed Expo 2 because it was a great experience and we learnt a lot about each other. We also enjoyed the formal dinner because it was a fun night when we got to dress up nicely and talk to new people.
  • The most interesting class this week was Innovation. We got to create an active game and play off against each other until we found the best one.
  • We are really excited for surfing on Wednesday, it will be our second time surfing so we should get more time in the water and have heaps of fun.

Our quote is: “We must be the change we want to see in the world.”~ Ghandi. This relates to us because we are nearly finished our journey here and it is time to step up and make a difference.

Hello everyone! It is Zailey, Molly, Kaitlyn and Rory, giving you the first update.

We decided to focus on a single day of the week, we had Bridge Building first up. One of the less successful bridges to be constructed sadly. The construction part was very good, but during the photoshoot, one of the supporting logs had other ideas. Such as breaking at its base, making lots of people wet, and making an interesting before and after of two images! Later that day, we had our first dress up night. We were meant to come dressed in our sports gear, boys came in their finest tiny shirts and shorts. Some came in suits and skins, others borrowed sports bras from girls! Molly and Rory dressed in their cycling attire, Kaitlyn dressed as an 80's inspired sports model and Zailey came in her normal sports outfit, skins and a shirt. We participated in activities, including a spelling bee and a fitness instruction video, with a very over the top instructor!

I hope we gave you a bit of insight into how our second week at Gnurad Gundidj has been. We hope for more weeks like this to come. See you all later!!!!!

Western Heights recently completed EXPO 2. A 3 day hike at Mount Eccles venturing over rocky paths and into tight spaced caves on the way. It was a long journey with lots of memorable experiences on the way. We became closer to our group.

Our most interesting class of the week was presentation skills, we got to make a one minute presentation on a topic of our choice. Amiee’s was about her favorite pizza shop and Michael’s was about Star Wars.

We are looking forward to Enviro-Farming which is helping out on the farms by herding the cows and milking cows

Our favorite quote that has been relevant to our group is, 'The grass is greener where you water it', because we have learnt that others can’t help you make things better, only you can help yourself.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". The fourth and most recently opened campus is Don Valley Campus, situated on land that was once known as Haining Farm in the Yarra Ranges.

Our school community acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Bidawel and Gundijmara people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school campuses are built. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their Elders past and present, and especially whose children attend our school.
