Enviro Classes – Demo Dairy Print E-mail

As part of our Enviro unit we visit a Demo Dairy which researches, demonstrates and educates farmers, visitors and trains students all about best practice in the dairy industry.

Enviro Classes at Demo Dairy

Together with visits and classes such as Framlingham Aboriginal Mission, Mt Emu Creek Water Watch, Hopkins River Canoeing/Hopkins Falls, expos and other outdoor activities the students start to form varied opinions of the environment. They start to understand that there are many stakeholders at play in managing and caring for the environment. An evening class is held later in the term where each expo team adopts the ‘persona’ or platform of one of the stakeholders and debate how best to manage the land. With guest adjudicators from Demo Dairy and Gunditjmara, the debate is very interesting.

Panmure Primary School Visit Print E-mail

Each term our students learn about a local topic such as volcanoes, indigenous food, native plants, healthy lifestyles and orienteering. We then invite students to visit us from a local primary school, this term being Panmure Primary School. We run the day from arrival/welcome to lunch and then give out certificates at the conclusion. The benefit to the Gnurad students is that they learn to research a topic, determine interesting activities so students can learn about the topic and then teach it to the primary students. For your information a timetable of the day is attached so you can see who taught which topic, the teams and the range of topics. We were particularly pleased that the Panmure Primary School Principal spent the day with us and he acknowledged the excellent work of the Gnurad Gundidj students. A great day was had by all involved.
